Country music will be on the spot, Pancho Amat and Cabildo del Son as well as other artists ... The annual Cuban music industry festival Cubadisco 2010 will be held from May 15 to 23 and dedicated to Cuban rural music, one of the less recorded types of music in Cuba. Cuba XIV Edition, will be held in La Habana from May 15 - 23. Ciro Benemelis, the president of the Cubadisco organizing committee, made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday. Música campesina is a very popular form of music in the countryside featuring guitar music and improvised singing, based on the structure of the decima style of poetry that is octosyllabic and has 10 lines. The first initiative of Cubadisco 2010 has been to sponsor a national tour, Se formó la guajira, by Cuban singer Alexis DÃaz Pimienta that got underway last weekend in Las Terrazas, Pinar del Rio, and will journey across the island. Cubadisco 2010 will conclude with another national tour featuring Cuban tres-guitar player Pancho Amat y su Cabildo del Son. Alexis DÃaz Pimienta is one of Cuba’s most known improvisers and has been declared president of honor of Cubadisco 2010. Other scheduled activities will include the singing of the world’s longest song to be carried out from May 1 to 15 in all 14 Cuban provinces, tributes to MarÃa Teresa Linares and to the Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP). There will also be an International Symposium on rural music open to investigators and scholars from around the world held from May 17 to 21. This year’s president of the 2010 Cubadisco Awards jury, Nerys Gonzalez, said that the jury is still accepting nominations, and that the majority of nominations so far have been from the EGREM, Bis Music and Colibrà labels.
