Spanish Group Celebrates Two Decades in Cuba. Monday, May 10, 2010 http://www.dtcuba.com Havana.- The Spanish hotel group Sol Meliá has operated for two decades in Cuba, where it inaugurated its first hotel in 1990. The consortium's first establishment in the Caribbean island was the Sol Palmeras Hotel, in Varadero beach. Tourism authorities noted that Sol Meliá's cooperation to develop tourism in Cuba has been fundamental. The Spanish chain runs more than 20 hotels in Cuba, where 66 hotels are administered and commercialized by 13 foreign companies. Cuba is visited by two million foreign tourists a year and ranks ninth among major destinations in the Caribbean region. |
