History and Tourism in Eastern Cuba Source dtcuba.com In that regard, new options are available this year in eastern Santiago de Cuba province, where tourists will be able to visit the remains of six sunken ships from a naval battle between Spain and the United States in 1898. The project, called "Una Inmersi贸n en la Historia" (A Dive into History), will allow 20 people to dive in the area where the remains of the battleships Vizcaya, Almirante Oquendo and Crist贸bal Col贸n rest. Other ships in the area are the destroyers Furor and Plut贸n, from the Spanish Navy, and the US steam ship Merrimac, which was sunk to prevent the Spanish fleet from fleeing. |
