Drum Festival in Cuba 2011

The Tenth Edition of the Drum Festival Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam will be held in Havana from 8 to 13 next March With a gala dedicated to the tenth anniversary of being awarded a Latin Grammy for the album La Rumba Soy Yo, will be officially launched at the Mella Theatre a new edition of the Drum Festival 2011. The event, scheduled for next March 8, put on stage a number of groups and artists of the Cuban music scene, including the dolls of Matanzas, Klimax and the National Folkloric Group, said today Giraldo Piloto, President the event, at a press conference. In the meeting, held at Havana Occidental Miramar, Pilot and other members of the organizing committee of the Fiesta del Tambor explained that one of the biggest attractions will be the show's best drummers in Cuba. The proposal is that each of the 10 guest drummers demonstrate in practice their interpretive qualities and different ways of playing the instrument according to musical genres. There will be, the next day at the same stage, a display for the Best Women Drummers from Cuba. Havana 2011, pursued the same objective, but with only four players invited. Giraldo Piloto, Klimax group director, said that in the case of the International Percussion Competition between nationals and foreigners have so far registered about 60 participants, in different ways, but until the beginning of the event will open the call, he said.
